EMDR Intensives
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a “bottom up” approach that rewires memory networks to desensitize us to old memories that cause dysregulation and disruption in our day-to-day lives. Traditional talk therapy asks us to stop and think about why we feel the way we do. As we desensitize, EMDR changes the way we think and feel about troublesome experiences so we can spend more time living and less time trying to cope with trauma.
What is an “Intensive” session? I’m glad you asked! Intensives are extended sessions that help you clear “targets” (triggering memories) in fewer sessions. Basically, you get the benefit of several hours of EMDR therapy in one long session instead of spreading it out over the course of several months. Intensives are designed for Recent Traumatic Experiences when the client has a solid set of healthy coping strategies and/or their own therapist for ongoing work.
